VISION LOSS, HEALTH CHECK-UP REVEALS LARGE PITUITARY TUMOR.
This is the case of a female customer A., 75 years old, residing in Ho Chi Minh City. Accordingly, customer A. felt that her vision was poor and seemed to be deteriorating, so she requested her family to take her for a general health check-up. At the Chợ Rẫy Việt Nhật – HECI Health Check-up Center (a collaboration between Chợ Rẫy Hospital and the International University of Health and Welfare, Japan), based on the results from laboratory and physical examinations, the doctors informed the female customer that she had a large pituitary tumor in her brain.
The female customer used the Platinum Course, which included MRI, MRA brain scans, and whole-body MRI at HECI. The imaging results, reviewed three times by doctors from Chợ Rẫy Hospital and Japanese doctors (IUHW), discovered a pituitary tumor measuring approximately 26x21x20mm.
After the examination, the patient was advised by the doctors, monitored, and underwent timely surgery to remove the pituitary tumor. According to information provided by the patient’s family, the patient’s health has now fully recovered, and she is living a normal life.
The pituitary gland is the main gland of the endocrine system, located in the brain and is less than 1 cm in size. This gland uses the information it receives from the brain to send signals to other glands in the body. It produces many important hormones for the body.
Even a benign pituitary tumor can cause serious health effects. Large pituitary tumors can compress adjacent parts of the brain, nerves related to vision, or other important structures. If not treated promptly, a pituitary tumor can rupture, causing brain hemorrhage and a very high risk of death.
It can be said that the above customer’s family, thanks to their habit of regular health screening, helped in the early detection of the disease, making the treatment of the tumor more convenient and effective.
